Corrections policy

How corrections work

When a factual error is identified in a published article, we correct the article, update its modified timestamp, and append a note describing what was changed and when. Corrections are append-only: we do not silently rewrite published reporting. If a story's central premise turns out to be wrong, the correction note leads the article.

Reporting an error

Readers can report errors to corrections@deai.org. Reports are reviewed against the article's cited sources; where the report is substantiated, the correction is applied and noted on the article.

Updates vs corrections

Developing stories receive updates as new information is confirmed — these are reflected in the article's modified date. A correction is different: it fixes something that was wrong at the time of publication, and is always labeled as a correction.
